Its a battery and it works. Although I gave 4 stars because I wish they would last longer (cycles not battery time.)and the cost is a little spendy considering the price of the drill 2 batteries and a charger really isnt that much more.

Not much to say here! The battery arrived relatively drained as expected, threw a full charge on it and now my DeWalt cordless screwdriver/drill is alive, alive, once again...tackling all of those jobs the tool is perfect for! The old/original battery lived for 5 years before I finally had to spring for this replacement, so I guess I should be good to go until, what? 2015???

We use these in a semi-controlled environment in which they are put on the charger ONLY ONCE prior to use. We are getting roughly 300 to 350 cycles out of them (though we would like more). If you're getting low number of cycles, look at your charging routine. Taking a pack off the charger and putting it back without first using roughly ~10% of the battery charge first will drastically reduce the life of the pack. The rumor is that these packs have a Sanyo variant of a common 2.4 or 2.5 Ahr Sub-C Sanyo cell inside. Sanyo makes quality cells. These packs have no smart chips inside, but do have air channels for when they are hooked up to DeWalt's charger that does have a fan. I wish DeWalt made a slower, gentler charger (3hr or overnight).

I have to agree about the life span being short however this tool proved to be very powerful compaired to most corded tools as this one did out drill the milwaukee in driving long lag screws in dense materials. The batteries are a bit expensive for life of the battery.

Dewalts 24V. Batteries only last about 35 -40 charge cycles before they die. That's from my experience of owning 6 of them all bought over a time span to have purchased all of there improved models and they all preformed the same.

Set your drill on the #1 for torque,and set your mode to the highest setting before drill mode,now try and hold it to stop the drill, do the same with the standard battery, No DOUBT the XR is more powerful and the 9.6 DeWalt drill are almost indestructible, drop a Hitachi from a ladder and it breaks in half,drop the DeWalt and pick it up and continue working,why-because the DeWalt has a heavy metal frame under the plastic. These drill will bury a screw or bolt into wood and take a beating like no other, also if you plan to use battery tools have several back up batteries, and just rotate to charger and tool.I have many battery power tools and love them !!

The replacement battery works well with my ten-year old Dewalt drill. My observation after a couple of short uses is that the capacity is no more or probably less than the original battery that came with the drill! I don't know if the XR label has much significance.

The battery worked well when i first got it but after a year it was pooped out and would not take much of a charge. This was my second replacement so i got a Bosch to replace the dewalt. Dewalt had two batteries that came with it one of them was no good.

I have tried 2 after-market battery packs in an attempt to save a litte (these batteries are not cheap) and they just don't measure up to the original DeWalt version. This one fits right, unclips easily (I had to take a screwdriver to one of the clone versions to get it out of my drill) and lasts longer.



These days I can't find the 9.6v anywhere but online so you also have to factor in a little extra cost for shipping, but the non-OEM items just aren't the same. I buy DeWalt tools for a reason - I guess that reason extends to the batteries too!
